"Business Sense"

Virtual assistance
Your office at her finger tips
BY MELISSA JOHNSON

To get ready for school, Robin Lorensen needs only to fill her coffee cup and put on her favorite pair of slippers. In the virtual classroom that awaits Lorensen in her home office, the dress code is strictly casual.

Her desk is incredibly clean. White binders stacked inside desk drawers are stuffed to the brim with notes and assignments from previous lessons. Her organization is a reflection of her excitement not only as a student, but as a woman opening her own business when most women her age would be fading into retirement.

I have personally worked with Robin for almost 10 years prior to her departure from IBM. Serving as my assistant, Robin was invaluable in managing the overall administrative services needed to support a 70 person technical software development staff responsible for delivering IT solutions to a variety of internal and external IBM customers.

Robin is the consummate professional who reliably did high quality work with little supervision. She produced outstanding results in a time-critical and high-pressure corporate environment. Most importantly, she was a team player who did whatever it took to get the job done. She analyzed issues, made independent decisions, and effectively solved problems across organizational boundaries. What made this particularly noteworthy is she was able to successfully produce these results while operating remotely for over 4 years following her move to Colorado . In fact, while the team was based in Research Triangle Park , NC over 40% of the team was located throughout the United States.

I have known Robin Lorensen for ten years and have been associated with Robin as a colleague. From our first meeting I was impressed with Robin's professionalism and expertise and, over time, my respect for her abilities has only increased. Robin is a highly skilled administrative practitioner who is able to develop a strong rapport with clients and consistently works to the highest level to meet client needs and demands.
